Urauchi 裏打ち: Practical workshop on Sumi-e and Shodo assembly
with the restorers Ana Beny and Clara Prieto
Although in Japan and China paper mounting is a profession, here it is about deepening the knowledge of this ancient technique that will allow us to complete the process of creating Shodo and Sumi-e pieces.
The general objectives of this workshop aimed at students with previous experience were:
1) Know the differences between Japanese and Chinese Urauchi.
2) Expand knowledge about other specific materials that helped us solve technical problems during assembly.
3) Understand the causes of the appearance of cracks and folds at different times during assembly.
It was a workshop of enormous learning and we are very grateful for the immense collaboration of these two restoration professionals.
