First Painting Meeting to Disorient Oneself in the Landscape
Coordinated by Prof. Luciana Rago and organized by Shodo Creativo
***The Navas of the Willow***
Avila, Castile and Leon, 2021
This first meeting was organized at the request of the people who attend the workshop regularly and as a way to celebrate the end of the 2020 pandemic.
In those times of minimal distances, we investigated the idea of remoteness based on maximum restrictions that helped us to awaken our creative potential. We worked from the format of “travel diaries” so present in the painting of Chinese scholars from the Song Dynasty onwards.
We painted from, with and through nature, its native vegetation and the whimsical shapes of the rocks that surrounded the house in Las Navas del Sauce.
Finally we move away from the screens to approach other ways of de-framing the painting and disorienting ourselves in the pictorial space.
As always, we gave priority to experimentation, playfulness and access to the unknown through the practice of large-format painting.
