LARGE FORMAT WORKSHOPS

the place of the body in the exercise of SHODO and SUMI-E

In the SHODO and SUMI-E monographs in LARGE FORMAT we are interested in working on the possibility of connecting with internal sensations to create a direct approach to movement that then leads us to the stroke.

Emphasize the ability of each person to connect with their own creative experience.

In these workshops we show how to hold the brush, compositional strategies in large dimensions, selection of the most appropriate materials, distribution of body weight, recognition of muscle tone and possibilities of movement with the brush in hand.

In most of our proposals we will start from small, intimate and centrifugal gestures to progressively increase the dimensions of the paper support and thus merge with the brush in a dance of gesture, impulse and stroke.

The purpose of this work is to integrate physical movement with the record of the gesture that comes from the confluence of personal images, sensations and proposed activities.

It is essentially a holistic approach to the practice of painting and calligraphy:

The one who paints is a body that feels, a body that looks, a body that moves and a body that enjoys.
