Carolina Gil Camps is LaKau (Chile, 1987). Fashion designer. She works on the rescue of pre-Columbian textile techniques, learned during her time at the Pre-Columbian Art Museum in Santiago, Chile. Later, she traveled to Southeast Asia, specifically to Laos, where she learned indigenous Hmog techniques, Batik with indigo, natural dyes and Shibori. Upon her return to Chile, she began her journey into the world of printing and started “LaKau Studio”, a self-managed project for the care and preservation of traditional manual techniques.
In her workshops she seeks to create spaces to let the imagination fly and awaken the creative mind through the development of textiles, papers and wood stamped with the techniques of Marbling and Suminagashi. She has taught practical workshops on Marbling and Suminagashi in different trade schools in Santiago and Valparaiso (Chile); and in Madrid and Barcelona (Spain).
