Collective exhibition of calligraphy teachers and students - Madrid, 2017.
“Let us delight in the flower of waiting
It sometimes produces even greater delight
that the event that is to come”
(Jose Antonio Martinez-Oliva Puerta; 2012)
In October 2017 we held the third Shodo Creativo exhibition. "The Flower of Waiting" (待つうちが花 Matsu uchi ga hana) was the title that brought together this set of works made by 16 people who study the art of Japanese calligraphy with us.
"The Flower of Waiting" helps us understand the value of empty spaces and times, those interstitial spaces (called "dead spaces" by Westerners) that are as necessary as they are vital to confront with greater intensity each gesture, each drop and each breath.
For this exhibition, each person selected a word, a poem or a proverb to work on and entered into a genuine creative process, intensely enjoying conscious and unconscious decisions, delighting in the choice of words, poems and phrases that move us most.
As always, these instances of socializing our work make us commit even more to creative practice to bring out the best in us and be able to share it with a wider audience, always curious and open to the proposals that, from Shodo Creativo, we think and propose with our daily work.
For each calligraphy, different styles were selected, ranging from the oldest to the most contemporary and free, passing through cursive styles and small brush kana. In all cases, the aim was to emphasize and work in a poetic way on the relationship between the style and the selected word.
